USC Ice Hockey fans!
Here are some updates from China. My apologies on not posting a time update before the first game, but the forum is blocked here in China (I guess the Chinese government doesn't like proboards85.com....). First off, thanks for listening! It means a lot to me to know that I can broadcast from halfway around the world and still have an audience.
Second off, the second game has been rescheduled. It is now starting at 4:00 AM a day later (on the 26th). I have no idea if the team is Hosa or not (our first opponent was a team of former pro players), but barring last second changes, the game should start then. Don't look for me to be able to post on the forums because of our proxy server issues.
Let me address some issues/questions on the other thread. The big one is what happened last game? USC won 8-7 against the Beijing North Stars, a team with former pro players. There were several factors working against the Trojans. 1) The other team asked for no hitting, possibly because they were a little older. 2) Intermissions were 5 minutes and there was no Zamboni ice cut between periods. 3) No scoreboard with a clock of any sort. 4) Jetlag, jetlag, jetlag.
Some notable things from Game 1.
- Former captain Ryan Seals and former team president Rich Dyer returned to the ice for USC. Seals had quite a bit of ice time and seemed to handle it well, while Dyer is playing goaltender on this trip because of a hopefully minor groin injury sustained by Buttweiler.
- Tyler McLinn returned and made a big impact scoring 2 goals and assisting on another one.
- Michael Nijjar stayed hot, extending his goal streak to 3 games (5 goals over those 3).
- Because Charlie Mach had visa issues and got in late, Michael Joyce's brother Matt Joyce played for USC and found himself on the scoresheet with an assist.
- Clark McClanathan had a fantastic game, scoring his first goal of the season and giving Joyce a beautiful setup pass for his goal. He followed by celebrating on the bench with Buttweiler (he threw his gloves to the floor and Buttweiler 'warmed' his hands on them like they were a campfire). The call is at about 9:00 of the archived broadcast.
- Mark Koechling scored the game winning goal in the second period.
- There were 6 Wang's on the North Stars' roster, as well as 2 Zhao's, and 2 Hao's.
- One of the Wang's, the goalie, was the former netminder for China's Women's National Team.
Official scoring coming up soon.
