USC wins 5-4. The Trojans nearly blew another third period lead this game too. They were ahead 4-2 and 5-3 at different points in the third, before time ran out on Stanford's comeback bid. This seems to be a common theme for USC: Get out to an early lead, lose focus, barely win/lose game. Tonight things were on the barely won side of the coin, following another common Trojan theme where USC drops the first game of a series and storms back to take the second. Player of the game and series for USC? Clearly Michael Nijjar.... he had a hat trick in tonight's game and a goal and an assist the night before, taking the opportunity to celebrate his reinstatement. Best player of the series for either team? Unquestionably Joe Ulerich. During the series he scored 6 goals with 3 assists (on 10 total Stanford goals), and was mistakenly credited with a 7th goal on the scoresheet. The Trojan defense, stretched thin because of a lack of personnel making the trip, had no answer for Ulerich all series long. But he couldn't do it alone tonight, and the Trojans were able to come through with a big win heading into a long road trip to Beijing. I'll bring you the games from there, keep an eye out for official times/dates. Until then thanks for tuning in! (official scorers soon to follow)
