This is Alex with a couple of updates on tonight's game. It looks like we're starting a little bit late here. The ten minute warmup clock hasn't started running yet. Matt Buttweiler gets the start for the Trojans, backing up is Dave Foley. Injured goaltender Matt Carcich will be joining me for tonight's game. Stay tuned, coming on the air shortly.

Alex, Prior to your broadcast, I normally hear some music. Tonight, I'm just getting dead air. I've tried 2 different PC's. Are you sure that you are "live?" Thanks, bob

Hey guys! Just got back from the game...I'm really sorry the broadcast didn't air. I think I might know why, but either way I'll talk to the Audio Sports guy and we'll make sure we're good to go tomorrow.
As for tonight's game, USC won easily 7-1. The game was only 2-0 at the end of one period and WSU was competitive, but I think more of that had to do with the fact that USC played a sloppy, rusty first 20 minutes.
From there on out the game was a blowout. USC outscored WSU 5-0 in the second period to seal the win.
Alex Lofthus had 2 goals, Mike Joyce had one, and I can't quite remember the other goal scorers off the top of my head but I'll make sure Goldsmith updates you tomorrow.
Matt Buttweiler played great in his first game back from injury. Didn't look like he missed a beat. WSU's goal came with 3 minutes to go in the third off a rebound after a USC defensive collapse, but otherwise he was stellar.
A dominating win for USC. We'll see if WSU can come out and be in it longer than 20 minutes.
Any other questions about the game just ask!
Sorry again fore the lack of broadcast. Shouldn't be an issue again.

Hey everyone, I have no idea what the heck happened with the broadcast. ASO didn't tell us anything was wrong. I think at the very least we were dialed in, so the replay should be up at some point. USC had a ridiculous amount of breakaways in this game. With a more average goalie playing for WSU this game could've gotten out of hand very quickly. Here are the goal scorers with assists with some descriptions as I can remember them. PERIOD 1 Joyce (Lofthus) ---- Lofthus steals the puck, splits two defensemen, does a 360, gets a shot on, rebound comes loose to Joyce who puts it home. Goal came 49 seconds in. Koechling (Price, Nijjar) --- Nijjar brings the puck into the zone on a 3 on 2, drops it to Price who takes a slapshot. Short rebound comes to Koechling who, like Joyce, puts it in the empty net. PERIOD 2 Joyce (Fyrwald) --- 4 on 4 goal. Fyrwald gives it to Joyce who pulls a sweet move in front of WSU's goalie on a short breakaway, tucks it home. Lofthus (Farias) ---- 4 on 4 goal. WSU makes a sloppy pass up the middle, Farias steals it right at the blue line, dishes it to Lofthus who has a short breakaway and beats the goalie on a backhand with the sweet deke. McLinn (Farias, Ozaki) ---- Ozaki passes across the crease while pinching in, Farias is stuck with a weird angle shot near the post and the goalie down and out, pulls it out and dishes it to the other faceoff circle to McLinn, who fires a one-time rocket straight to the back of the net. Landsinger (Szentveri, Koechling) ---- Coming off of a penalty kill, Koechling gets out of the box, taps it to Szentveri who makes a great pass to Landsinger who one times it in from the door step. Lofthus (Gawlik) ---- A bit of a fluky goal. Long pass misconnects, goes off of a WSU skate right to a streaking Alex Lofthus, who puts it in on the breakaway. PERIOD THREE WSU had a garbage goal with about 3:30 left to break up Buttweiler's shutout. I think Piesinger (#16) scored it.
My apologies to those of you trying to listen. I don't have access to the blog, but I was so distracted with wrangling broadcasters and interviews and roster problems that I didn't check the forums. That was my mistake. Foley and I will get things sorted out tomorrow.

Tune in tonight at 7:30 PST (though it almost always starts around 7:45) for game two of USC's two game series with the WSU Cougars.
